Shotgun Club – Love Under The Gun (2011)

Shotgun Club sind die finnische Postpunk Antwort auf die Highendproduktion, die Chorus und Ohrwurmfraktion, kurz: Schräg, kantig, lärmend und definitiv nicht eingängig. Sie selbst sehen sich als dunkler Dub, als primitive Musik, repetiv, nervzersetzend bis zum Untergang. Eine Band, die ihr erstes Zuhause bei Stupido hat. Das Label welches für skurrile Musik aus dem hohen Norden bekannt ist und Eläkeläiset, die Könige of Humppa bereits salonfähig machte. Mit Shotgun Club präsentiert sich eine weitere Facette des schrägen Finnlands, das so viel mehr zu bieten hat, als die großen Exportschlager wie Him und Sunrise Avenue vermuten lassen.

Shotgun Club is some uneasy stuff. It’s minimalist and stark, offering no easy walls of sound for ears to climb. The washes of reverb are unsettlingly stark, not comforting. This is a dark, dark dub and primitive music. Repetitious and insistent. Instead of the new car smell, you get the smell of an underground parking garage, with the echoing footsteps of someone following you in the dark thrown in for good measure. Shotgun Club will sneak up on you.
