Otto Dix – Autocrator

Otto Dix ist sicher Russlands exotischter Musikexport. Seit gut 20 Jahren spielt der Sänger mit den Geschlechterrollen (ein Umstand, der in Russland durchaus für Probleme sorgen kann) und singt im höchsten Falsett von Schönheit und Verfall, Extase und Untergang. Stilistisch definierte die Band aus Sankt Petersburg dabei ein eigenes Genre zwischen Dark Wave und Gothic und nimmt in Russland als “enfant terrible” in ungefähr die Position von Marylin Manson in der westlichen Hemisphäre ein. Nach über einem Dutzend Alben geht Otto Dix mit dem neuen Werk “Autocrator” gänzlich neue Wege. Das musikalische Ensemble wurde durch den Sänger neu besetzt und findet in dem extrovertierten
Komponisten und Gitarristen Mike Interio den kongenialen Gegenpart für ein Werk, das durchaus auch mit härteren
Metal Elementenszu überzeugen weiss. Dennoch: Über allem thront die überirdische Stimme Otto Dix’. “Autocrator”
setzt sich dabei mit Macht und ihrem Missbrauch und der Frage, inwieweit wir alle zu leicht programmierbaren
Marionertten im Informationszeitalter herangezogen werden können.

OTTO DIX is often called the flagman of the Russian darkwave. Formed in summer 2004 in the Far East of Russia,
they still represent the Russian electronic and gothic music all over the former USSR territory and in Europe.
The group plays darkwave with elements of neo-classic, industrial and ЕВМ. All lyrics are in Russian.
First the band was a duo of Michael Draw (lyrics, vocals, show) and Sergey ‘Marie Slip’ Slobodchikov (music,
programming, management). But in 2018 Slip left and the new person came to his place: Mike Interio, guitar player,
composer, programmer.The band is well known for unusual vocals and show – every song is presented by Draw like a
small theater play combining elements of a pantomime and ballet. OTTO DIX often called “darkwave number one
band” in Russia for active concerting life which was never interrupted: lots of live performances, regular big tours,
participation in such European festivals as WGT, NCN and Castle Party. Soon the band will release the new album
called “Autocrator”. Main theme of the album is Power – power of the society over the person, power of the person over
the society, power of time and the impossibility for the humans to have power over it.
