So ungewöhnlich Piraten aus dem Ruhrgebiet scheinen mögen, so untypisch für das Genre ist auch der Piraten-Folk von Cat o’ Nine. Wer hier einschlägige Shanties oder allseits bekannte Traditionals vermutet, wird absolut überrascht sein. Die Seefahrer-/Piraten-Thematik und das Meer an sich dienen der Band als Projektionsfläche für die Schilderungen ihrer Reisen und Erlebnisse. Die Vielseitigkeit ihrer Texte sowie die verschiedenen musikalischen Facetten von Cat o’ Nine werden von der Fachpresse lobend hervorgehoben, da hier nichts berechenbar ist. Das Spektrum der Band erstreckt sich von ‚energisch-treibend’ über ‚eingängig-folkig’ bis hin zu ‚romantisch-verträumt’.
Cat o’ Nines zweites Album ‚Too long at sea‘ schaffte es bis auf Platz 5 der Deutschen Alternative Charts (DAC), die lobenden Rezensionen in der Fachpresse reichten bis zum Prädikat ‚ausgezeichnet’, bspw. als Tipp im Legacy 1/22 mit 13 von möglichen 15 Punkten.

As unusual as pirates from the Ruhr area may seem, the pirate folk of Cat o’ Nine is also atypical for the genre. Anyone who suspects relevant shanties or well-known traditionals will be absolutely surprised. The seafarer/pirate theme and the sea itself serve the band as a projection surface for the descriptions of their travels and experiences. The variety of their texts as well as the different musical facets of Cat o’ Nine are praised by the specialist press, because nothing is predictable here. The spectrum of the band ranges from ‘energetic-driving’ to ‘catchy-folky’ to ‘romantic-dreamy’.
Cat o’ Nine’s second album ‘Too long at sea’ made it to number 5 in the German Alternative Charts (DAC), the positive reviews in the specialist press ranged up to the rating ‘excellent’, e.g. as a tip in Legacy 1/22 13 out of a possible 15 points.
